Are you chasing perfectionism? Can we ever really catch it?
Welcome to the Elevate Up Leadership Coaching Podcast and an in-depth episode in THE YOSEMITE SERIES called "Leadership Lessons from Nature" with your Host, your Coach, and "The Sherpa" Steve Seay!
In this episode, Host and Coach Steve Seay also known as the Sherpa, concludes his five-part Yosemite series by exploring the profound life lessons learned during a recent wilderness adventure.
---
Steve shares insights from his time with leaders Yamini, Barry, and Lucas, focusing on the symbolism of carrying heavy loads in both nature and daily life. He dives into the principles of self-forgiveness, illustrating its importance in releasing negative core beliefs and replacing them with positive affirmations. Steve contrasts the futile pursuit of perfectionism with the attainable practice of mastery, encouraging listeners to measure their progress based on past achievements rather than unreachable ideals.
Let's talk about this concept of a life team: Imagine the emotional, physical, and moral support that a close-knit group of individuals can provide. Steve stresses the value of having a diverse and supportive tribe to help navigate life's challenges.

Start a Business with Duct Tape and Sandbags | EVERYDAY HEROES with Manuel Flores
Thursday Oct 24, 2024
Thursday Oct 24, 2024
Ask yourself this question: WHY NOT ME?
Welcome to the Elevate Up Leadership Coaching Podcast and a deep-dive episode in our "EVERYDAY HEROES" series with your Host, your Coach, and "The Sherpa" Steve Seay!
Coach Steve's guest today is Manuel Flores. He is a part-time Respiratory Therapist and part-time Personal Trainer of his own company (On the Clock Fitness).
Manuel was an only child from the Mojave Desert surrounded by a large Hispanic family, but he looked into the beautiful desert horizon and always knew there was more of him elsewhere. Traveling and living in multiple cities until he settled in Roseville, California. It was here where he began working full time in retail and going to school full time to pursue a dream and eventually becoming a respiratory therapist. Living in Roseville he and his wife (at the time) raised a beautiful family of 3 kids. Unfortunately going through divorce and raising 3 kids on his own had struggles of its own. But he pressed on, knowing there was more for him.
His passion for exercise and coaching his kid’s sports pulled him in a direction he never knew. He became a personal trainer. Having his own idea of a business plan he decided to start his own training business called On the Clock Fitness (OTC). He is now working part time as a trainer and part time as a Respiratory therapist and married to his lovely wife and best friend Christina. Between the two of them having 5 kids, now mostly grown and starting families of their own. Now life continues on, and he loves the life he and Christina have built and continue to grow
LISTEN FOR THIS MOMENT: "I think it's really important to have routines. Having routines is the foundation of freedom. When you don't have those routines, your life can be in chaos. And having those set routines that you live by daily, it just helps kind of helps hone things in a little bit better. For me, it's simple. Starting the day out making my bed is probably one of the biggest habits that I do every morning. Then, I always get into a workout first thing in the morning. I love getting the blood pumping first thing."

From Crisis to Curiosity | EVERYDAY HEROES with Juan Perez
Thursday Oct 03, 2024
Thursday Oct 03, 2024
As a leader, do you have a true dedication that goes beyond your official duties?
Welcome to the Elevate Up Leadership Coaching Podcast and a deep-dive episode in our "EVERYDAY HEROES" series with your Host, your Coach, and "The Sherpa" Steve Seay!
A motorcycle ride, and a dead battery - that is what sparked a longer conversation between Coach Steve and Juan Perez in California when they met.
Juan is a San Francisco native who continues residing in the Bay Area. He's married to his high school sweetheart, and they have two wonderful children, ages 9 & 7. Juan, a police detective, fulfills multiple roles within his department, including field training officer, crisis negotiator, peer support counselor, and trainer in 'Principled Policing'. His dedication extends beyond his official duties as he is deeply engaged with the local community, fostering relationships with the individuals he serves.
Coach Steve believes wholeheartedly that Juan is at the top of the list for growth and curiosity!
LISTEN FOR THIS MOMENT: "Those of us in my generation, when 9/11 happened - they all knew where they were, right? So, 9/11 was a very pivotal moment for me and my life - not because in that moment I was like I know I want to join law enforcement - no, not at all. But it was a moment where I started looking at the human side of what happened. For me, I was thinking about me. It was more of a self-reflection moment, and I was thinking of all of the people that perished in those planes - people from all walks of life. It was just a reflection moment for me where I asked myself 'if I were to die today - this moment - like how would people remember me?'."
